The Ford Motor Company announced on January 26th, 2016 an expansion of the Takata airbags safety recall to take effect immediately.

The safety recall affects all Ford Ranger trucks manufactured between 2004 and 2006 in North America. As with the original recall, the driver side Takata airbag inflators found in these vehicles have been found to be defective.

With the expansion there are now 391,394 total Ford vehicles included in the safety recall. They include 361,692 in the United States and federalized territories and 29,334 in Canada.

To date Ford has confirmed knowledge of at least one death stemming from a defective Takata airbag installed in a Ford vehicle.

Current owners of a Ford Ranger truck from 2004-2006 can visit to determine if their vehicle is part of the safety recall by entering its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the safety recalls page.

The cost of replacing the driver side Takata airbag inflators as part of the safety recall is free to vehicle owners.
