Woman Dies After Plastic Surgery Mishap

A family is suing a Texas plastic surgeon for the death of a woman who died during a procedure. The family of Lisa Martinez is filing a medical malpractice lawsuit against a Texas plastic surgeon, after Martinez died during a procedure, according to WOAI News.

Martinez underwent a procedure known as a "Brazilian butt lift" on April 14 with Dr. Robert Young, who the news source said is a popular San Antonio plastic surgeon. The procedure involves extracting fatty tissue from a patient's hips and lower and mid back and then injecting it back into the buttocks.

A medical examiner said Martinez experienced intra-abdominal hemorrhaging due to a perforated aorta during the procedure, reported the source. The vein supplying blood leading to the rest of her body was punctured, leading to her death.

Although Young was once investigated by the Texas Medical Board after being sued by multiple patients, the source said it soon dismissed its concerns. Young is a board certified surgeon and reportedly has no violations listed against him.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports there are many risk associated with body lifts. The organization said only women in a good state of health should undergo such a procedure, as risks include bleeding, persistent pain, blood clots, poor wound healing and skin loss.
