Tour Bus Hits Tractor Trailer, Kills One on Pennsylvania Turnpike

A tour bus driver was killed after hitting the back of a tractor trailer flatbed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.The driver of a tour bus was killed after he crashed into a tractor trailer flatbed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Westmoreland County on June 27.

The Somerset County Daily American reports that the accident occurred about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh around 7:20 a.m. near the Donegal exit when the bus, which was carrying mostly Asian tourists headed to New York City from Louisville, Kentucky, rear ended the truck.

According to the news agency, the driver, who has been identified as 39-year-old Bo Hua Tan of New York, was trapped in the bus and was later declared dead at the scene. Twenty-two of the passengers on the bus reportedly sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the collision.

The driver of the truck has been identified as 23-year-old Justin Abraham of Michigan. He reportedly was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 46 people died as the result of motor vehicle accidents in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 2009.
