Texas Family Sues Natural Gas Companies Over Health Problems

Texas Family Sues Natural Gas Companies Over Health ProblemsA North Texas family that allegedly experienced health problems after more than 50 natural gas wells appeared near their home within the course of a few years has filed a toxic substances lawsuit against nine companies.

Lisa and Bob Parr claim in their suit that they experienced more than 20 symptoms since 2008, when the gas wells allegedly began springing up around their property, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. These symptoms include heart arrhythmia, abdominal pain, coughing, nosebleeds, migraines and open sores. Their young daughter, Emma, soon began to develop the same symptoms, and the family sought consultation with an environmental health specialist, the toxic substances suit states. The specialist found "natural gas chemicals, compounds, and/or metals" in their bodies, and they responded by moving out of their house, according to the suit.

According to Fox 4 News, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is investigating the natural gas wells after receiving complaints from dozens of residents who claim they're being poisoned by the toxic fumes and emissions. The Parrs reportedly say that the commission's investigation is moving too slowly to address their concerns.
