Parents of California Teenager Killed in Car Accident Sue City

Parents of California Teenager Killed in Car Accident Sue CityThe parents of a California high school student who was struck and killed by a car in April recently filed a car accident lawsuit against the city of Arcadia, California, claiming the crosswalk where the incident occurred has been known as dangerous for a while.

According to the Pasadena Star-News, Ruixia Liang and Yongjian Zhang sued the city after their daughter, Alice, was killed by Arcadia resident Bowen Du in the busy crosswalk.

The family's car accident attorney said that the crosswalk has been known to be a hazard and was not properly fixed by the city.

"People have been hurt there before. The city reacted by putting in an experimental crossing signal that proved insufficient," the accident lawyer explained.

Arcadia police offices have asserted that the windshield of Du's vehicle was dirty and the setting sun may have also played a role in the accident. Du, a Pasadena City College student, pleaded not guilty in June to one count of felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, according to the news source.

According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, a number of Arcadia High School students asked the city council in May to make changes to the crosswalk to increase safety.
