North Carolina Motorcyclist Killed In Big Rig Collision

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a tractor trailer in North Carolina.A 39-year-old motorcyclist from North Carolina was killed in an accident involving a tractor trailer and a passenger van on June 19 on Interstate 26 in Henderson County.

The Citizen Times reports that the accident occurred just after 11:45 p.m. on the westbound side of the highway when the driver of the motorcycle apparently hit the rear side of the big rig near marker} 42 just south of Asheville.

According to the news agency, the motorcyclist, who has been identified as William Gene Sutton of Arden, then fell onto the highway and was run over by a van.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the accident.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol told the news source that they are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash, but it appears as if Sutton was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.

It reportedly took emergency workers about an hour to clear the wreck.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 155 motorcyclists were killed as the result of motor vehicle accidents in North Carolina in 2009.
