Mother Files Lawsuit Over Infant Daughter’s Fatal Beating

Mother Files Lawsuit Over Infant Daughter's Fatal BeatingAn Iowa woman whose 18-month-old daughter allegedly died of "non-accidental (inflicted) trauma" has sued the girl's father, with whom she was living at the time of her death, and the day care facility that allegedly failed to report the abuse that led up to it.

Kamryn Schlitter died at a hospital after she was found experiencing seizure-like symptoms in a Hiawatha apartment, according to Eastern Iowa News Now. In her personal injury lawsuit, Nicole King accuses the girl's father, Zyriah Schlitter, and Amy Parmer of inflicting the "beating and abuse" that caused the girl's death.

The former and current owners of the Apple Kids daycare facility are also named as defendants in the personal injury lawsuit. King claims that prior to her daughter's death, an Apple Kids employee noticed a bruise that had been covered by make-up on Kamryn and even photographed it, but did not make a report to the Iowa Department of Human Services. A later bruise found by an employee was reported, but the subsequent investigation did not come quickly enough to save Kamryn's life, the lawsuit claims.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, children under the age of 4 are most vulnerable to death from abuse and neglect.
