Man Sues Paramedic For Stealing His Foot

Man Sues Paramedic For Stealing His FootA man who lost his foot in a 2008 car wreck has filed a personal injury lawsuit against a paramedic, claiming she took the amputated limb from the scene.

The suit states that Cynthia "Cindy" Economou's act was "outrageous and went beyond the bounds of decency," according to the Treasure Coast Palm. Karl Lambert, to whom the foot belonged, said at a sentencing hearing that "we'll never know" if the foot could have been reattached. The suit states that Economou removed the foot from the scene rather than delivering it to the hospital.

Economou said at the sentencing hearing that the only reason she took the foot was because it was badly mangled, and said that if she thought it could have been reattached, she would have acted differently. She took the foot to help train her body recovery dog, she said.

Lambert is represented by a personal injury attorney, and seeks unspecified damages from Economou and the St. Lucie County Fire District, which is also named as a defendant in the suit.

According to the National Limb Loss Information Center, there were approximately 1.7 million Americans living with limb loss in 2007.
