Man In Critical Condition Following Early Morning Accident

This accident led to the closure of nearby roads for much of Monday morning, as the accident occurred at roughly 1:45 a.m. that day.An overnight crash that involved a Phoenix police car and a four-door Honda led to the closure of roads near 7th Street and Southern Avenue in the Arizona capital, according to the Arizona Republic.

The newspaper reported that this accident led to the closure of nearby roads for much of Monday morning, as the accident occurred at roughly 1:45 a.m. that day, according to police reports.

The driver of the Honda was traveling westbound on Southern when he allegedly attempted to turn left onto 7th Street as a Phoenix police officer was driving eastbound on the same road.

Following a crash between the two vehicles, both drivers were taken to local hospitals, according to Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes. The driver of the Honda, a 22-year-old male, remains in critical condition, according to the Republic.

The newspaper reported that the 40-year-old police officer had non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

Five more individuals were sent to the hospital following another car accident that occurred to the south in Tuscon, Arizona, as a two-vehicle crash caused multiple injuries and long traffic delays on Christmas night, according to KOLD News Tuscon.

The news source reported that seven people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and five of these individuals were taken to the hospital after a truck and a Suburban were involved in a T-bone accident around 8:30 p.m. on Christmas night.

The incident delayed traffic for more than an hour in both directions on State Route 86, as witnesses told the news source that they waited in a backup that was three-quarters of a mile long.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, there were a total of 106,177 crashes in Arizona during 2010, and 33,195 of these accidents resulted in injuries for passengers.
