Louisiana Woman Files Suit Against Winn Dixie

A Louisiana woman filed a personal injury suit against Winn Dixie after falling in one of its stores.A woman is filing a personal injury lawsuit against grocery chain Winn Dixie after she allegedly slipped in water and fell in one of its New Orleans stores, according to the Louisiana Record.

The plaintiff, Doris Galloway, claims that she suffered severe and permanent injuries from the incident, which occurred on June 26, 2010. The suit, which was filed in federal court on May 23, accuses the defendant of negligence for failing to properly maintain the premises and failing to warn patrons of a dangerous condition, in addition to a slew of other charges.

The news source said Galloway claims the fall left her permanently disabled, although it did not specify how. The plaintiff is seeking damages for physical injuries, emotional distress, medical expenses, lost wages, loss of wage earning capacity, pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, rehab and support care as well as court costs.

The chances of being seriously injured in a fall increases considerably with age, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The agency said falls are the leading cause of injury death among adults over age 65.
