Louisiana Resident Files Slip-and-Fall Lawsuit Against Wal-Mart

Louisiana woman files personal injury suit against Wal-martA Tangipahoa, Louisiana woman recently filed a personal injury lawsuit against Wal-Mart after she allegedly slipped and fell inside the company’s store in Hammond, Louisiana.

Elaine Johnson’s suit claims that while shopping in the store in November of 2009, she slipped on some spilled water in one of the aisles, according to the Louisiana Record. The incident occurred in the produce department, and Johnson alleges that the water ended up on the floor from the department’s watering system.

Wal-Mart is accused of being negligent in allowing the water to drip onto the floor and cause the plaintiff to slip and injure herself, the news source reports.

Johnson is reportedly seeking more than $12,000 in damages for court costs, interest, medical expenses and lost wages.

The defendant’s request for removal claims that Johnson’s damages may actually exceed $75,000, as she is currently pursuing medical treatment for shoulder injuries allegedly sustained during her fall, and she is likely to have surgery to address these injuries, according to the news provider.
