Investigation into Deadly Arizona Crash Continues

Investigation into Deadly Arizona Crash ContinuesAfter a car accident in Arizona resulted in the deaths of five passengers, the sole survivor of the accident is improving in the hospital and investigators are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the crash that killed four teenagers and one adult occurred on a small, isolated dirt road in northwest Arizona. The father of the only survivor says his daughter is “doing better” now.

Dan Timpson told the news source his daughter, 16-year-old Nakita Timpson of Colorado City, Arizona, is still recovering from her critical injuries while being treated at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. Timpson gave no further comment regarding his daughter’s injuries.

Timpson lost his 19-year-old son Jamison Timpson in the crash, which also led to the deaths of Monica Joy Bistline, Carl Otto Nathaniel Holm, Rachel Anne Colgrove and Virgel Taylor Roundy. Ages of the deceased ranged from 15 to 22 years old.

“I’m to the point right this minute that I’m just really, really grateful that she let me be her mom,” said Stefanie Colgrove, Rachel’s mother.

According to ABC affiliate News 15, The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies were dispatched to the scene of a single-car rollover accident on Wednesday, March 7, near the Utah border, roughly 17 miles south of Centennial Park. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Patricia Carter confirmed the single survivor in the accident.

Deputies arrived at the scene at about 4:45 p.m., where they found the five people who were killed. Investigators say the crash occurred sometime between late Tuesday night or early on Wednesday. The police department told the media outlet the Chevy Suburban they were driving allegedly failed to adjust for speed on a turn on the dirt road and rolled over.

According to The Associated Press, further investigation conducted by Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jim McCabe suggests the five people may have been out celebrating Timpson’s birthday, and that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

“What happened is they failed to negotiate a turn,” McCabe said. “At that time of night, there was ungodly high winds and so visibility probably wasn’t great out there in the middle of the desert on a dirt road.”

Authorities still have not determined who was driving the car at the time of the crash.
