Driver Involved in Fatal Car Crash Arrested After Being Discharged from Hospital

Driver Involved in Fatal Car Crash Arrested After Being Discharged from HospitalA man who was involved in a fatal car crash last week has been arrested after he was discharged from a Tucson hospital, KVOA News reports.

According to the media outlet, 41-year old Daniel Douriet, the driver of a Dodge Charger that was involved in the crash, was released from the hospital on January 20. Detectives from the Traffic Investigation Unit of the Tucson Police Department arrested the man immediately after his release, and charged him with one count each of Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage and Unlawful Possession of Narcotic Drugs – all of which are felonies.

Douriet was taken into custody of the Pima County Adult Detention Center on Friday.

The arrest was made following a January 15 crash, which officers from the Tucson Police Department’s Operations Division South responded to at about 1:05 a.m. The team was summoned on reports of a collision on East Benson Highway and South Kino Gateway where serious car injuries had occurred. One woman was taken to the trauma center at a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she died shortly after, according to the news source.

Detectives with the police department concluded that a 2008 Dodge Charger, driven by Douriet with the woman in the passenger seat, allegedly lost control, and struck objects on the side of the road including a sign, a light pole and a wire fence.

The driver then turned around and drove onto Benson Highway in the wrong direction, where he allegedly struck a Nissan Altima head-on.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, there were a total of 698 fatal accidents across the state in 2010, and an additional 33,195 accidents that led to injuries that same year.
