Dangerous Drugs Lawsuit Filed Against Prozac Manufacturer

Lawsuit filed against Prozac manufacturerA Pennsylvania man currently serving time in prison for the murder of his father has filed a dangerous drugs lawsuit against the manufacturer of the antidepressant Prozac. According to the suit, taking the drug Eli Lilly & Co. manufactured caused violent tendencies in the plaintiff and caused him to kill his father, PennLive.com reports.

Kurt Danysh has been in prison for 14 years for killing his father in 1996. He claims that he started taking Prozac prior to the murder, and that the drug's manufacturer concealed from consumers evidence that Prozac can cause suicidal and homicidal tendencies. He seeks more than $100,000 in damages for alleged negligence, according to the news source.

"There is no credible scientific evidence that establishes a causal connection between Prozac and violent behavior. To the contrary, scientific evidence shows that Prozac and other anti-depressant medications appear to reduce these behaviors," said an Eli Lilly spokeswoman.

According to WebMD, several studies have shown that Prozac can cause suicidal thoughts, a worsening of depression or other mental disturbances, especially in patients under 25.
