Vet Files $21 Million Personal Injury Suit Over Fallen AC

Man files personal injury suit over fallen ACAn evicted Vietnam War veteran who got hit by an air conditioning unit that fell from the 6th floor is suing his former landlords.

Anthony Franzese had been evicted from his East Village apartment following a long feud with his landlords, according to the New York Daily News.

The 67-year-old man was reportedly walking his dog outside the building when an improperly-secured air conditioning unit weighing 45 pounds fell from a 6th floor window of the building and hit him in the head, the news source reports.

His $21 million personal injury suit claims that he sustained concussions, a skull fracture and permanent brain damage. While being treated for these conditions, Franzese allegedly had a heart attack and fell into a coma. His former landlords are accused of improperly installing the air conditioning unit, according to the news provider.

New York City's Buildings Department has also accused landlords Zenon Chernyk and Areta Podhorodecki of not maintaining safe conditions in their building, and reportedly face a fine of up to $25,000.
